Valery Kovalska is a young Ukrainian designer and a leading figure in the Ukraine fashion world. In recent years her brand has developed a significant reputation and following internationally as well.
Valery has always said that fashion just happened to her, that it was never a conscious choice, that it was somehow always just a part of her DNA. Valery’s friends were all in creative fields; dancers, musicians, lmmakers, and in the fine arts.
They loved Valery’s unique style and began asking if she could create clothing for them as well. Through this, at the age of 17, she developed a career working as a stylist and a wardrobe designer for various TV and music video projects in Russia and in the Ukraine.
After 3 years of experience, at the age of 20, she realized that she had too many ideas that she wanted to express and that she needed to design a full collection. She decided to launch her own Mens and Womens collections focusing on intricate patternmaking, original prints, new techniques in leather artistry, and a heavy emphasis on tailoring. She debuted her new collection under her name, VALERY KOVALSKA, in March of 2010 at the Ukrainian Fashion Week. Thanks to a positive response from international media, Valery was invited to take part in London Fashion Week.
She presented her second collection for the SS11 season in London in September 2010, called “Professional Suicide”, and was recognized as the most promising young designer from the Ukraine. She was then featured as the closing show for the SS11 Mercedes-Benz fashion week in Kiev. At the start of 2011 Valery formed a collaboration with a new business partner for the launch of the L’UVÉ brand. She was the sole designer of all three of the L’UVÉ collections; Womens, Mens, and Accessories.
By October of 2011 she had designed and opened their 5,000sf mono brand flagship store in the city center of Kiev that featured her designs exclusively. After 2 successful years Valery ended her collaboration with L’UVÉ and returned to designing exclusively for her namesake brand. In October of 2013, the Valery Kovalska collection expanded into the International market with her first Paris Fashion Week presence for SS14. The collection has continued to build a loyal international following across diverse cultural lines selling to accounts in the US, Middle East, Asia, Europe, Russia, and she has launched in her first International Department Store.
The style of the Valery Kovalska collection is Downtown Urban Chic utilizing luxe fabrics, original prints, handmade knits, and always her signature worked leather looks.
Her inspiration is the modern day power woman who is able to juggle all of the varied elements of her busy life with ease. She designs for the woman who needs to feel powerful and comfortable but who never wants to blend in to the crowd.
Valery Kovalska pieces are fashion forward and edgy with an approachable laid back feel and an unmistakable element of cool.
